LODDEKOPINGE, Sweden (AP) - Little-known Marc Warren set the early pace at the Scandinavian Masters, shooting a 5-under-par 67 in the first round on Thursday.

The 25-year-old Scotsman had five birdies in his bogey-free round at Barseback Golf and Country Club in southern Sweden. Four of them came on the back 9.

Warren has missed four straight cuts on the European Tour and is only 129th on the money list.

New Zealander Michael Campbell, last year's U.S. Open champion, birdied his final hole for a 68. Also on that figure were Raphael Jacquelin of France, Tom Whitehouse of England and Fredrik Andersson Hed, one of a record 48 Swedes in the 159-player field.

Campbell is playing his 10th Scandinavian Masters and his first since 2004 when he missed the cut at Barseback. The following year he won the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, beating Tiger Woods by two shots.

Defending champion Mark Hensby of Australia opened with a 72. So did Jesper Parnevik, who won the event in 1995 to become the first Swede to win a European Tour event in Sweden.

Carl Pettersson, another Swede who plays on the PGA Tour and who won the Memorial two months ago, had a 73.

Among those with late tee times was Todd Hamilton, the 2004 British Open winner from the United States.

Barseback, site of the 2003 Solheim Cup where Swedish star Annika Sorenstam led Europe to victory over the United States, is one of the longest on the European Tour with 6,735 meters (7,365 yards).
