A Texas Instruments technology that uses arrays of micromirrors to produce sharp and bright images in a lit room. The mirror arrays are mounted on microchips and each mirror represents a pixel. The mirrors tilt one way for zero (no pixel) or the other way for one (a lit pixel) and the entire chip represents a complete picture array in memory. As manufacturing techniques improve, the DLP chip has improved to resolutions that allow the projection of HDTV at its highest resolution. Expect further improvements.
For displays color is obtained by having either three different chips with three color lamps or a single chip, one lamp, and a rotating color disk. |
